Happy New Year to All!
Let’s Kick Things Off with A Classic Movie New Year’s Resolution Contest!
Well, we’re getting started a little late this month with our next contest, but it’s been quite busy here at CMH! I’m happy to say that we had well over 2oo entries for our Singin’ in the Rain Fathom Events Ticket Giveaway — which kept me very busy here, to say the least!!!
That said, however, we’re going to kick off another January contest, a tad late perhaps, but we’ll make up for lost time, I promise!
As is fitting for January, I thought it’d be fun to focus on some fun (and some serious) New Year’s resolutions… so let’s start with a dozen right now…
“Watch now. I show you how to flip-flop the flop-flips.” – S.Z. Sakall in Christmas in Connecticut
If only it were that easy!
…..

“Hello friends. I’m your Vitameatavegamin Girl. Are you tired, run-down, listless? Do you poop-out at parties?” – Lucy 🙂
I hear you Lucy!
…..

“For a gallon of elderberry wine, I take one teaspoon full of arsenic, then add half a teaspoon full of strychnine, and then just a pinch of cyanide.” – Jean Adair in Arsenic and Old Lace
Good reason to quit, no? Or at least cut down 🙂
(sorry, I stole that comment from a fan on twitter, but it made me chuckle)
…..
“Buck up – never say die. We’ll get along.” – Charlie Chapin in Modern Times
And then, heartbreakingly beautiful music comes in as A Factory Worker (Chaplin) and A Gamin (Paulette Goddard) walk away into the dusk… And I shed an enormous tear…
Yes, I want to smile more this year 🙂
…..
“Oh, Marilyn… the circles under your eyes. How lovely you look today.” -Yvonne De Carlo in The Munsters
Okay, so my family doesn’t look like this, but we have lots of fun together and accept each other for who we are 🙂
…..
Honestly, I’m not sure which film this is from, but it beat out the ‘excruciatingly painful’ image of Sir Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man which makes me cringe just thinking about it!
Yes, I must must MUST go to the dentist this year…and not looking forward to it, to say the least!
…..
“And I’m gonna learn all the expressions, too, like ‘Bo-do-dee-oh-do’, ’23 skidoo’, and ‘I’ll kiss you later, I’m eating a potato’…” -Jackie Gleason in The Honeymooners
Yes, I want to recapture the fun I had as a youth… nothing wrong with that, right 🙂
…..
“Oh Bwoon Hilda, you’re so wovely.” – Elmer Fudd
Actually, I love fine music (and not-so-fine music too), but I want to see and hear more of it this year…
…..
“I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date. No time to say ‘Hello, Goodbye. I’m late, I’m late, I’m late.” – The White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland
Nothing wrong with being on time, right, except it might shock all of my friends 🙂
…..
“He’s gonna sing, folks. Now’s the time to go out and get the popcorn.” -Bob Hope in Road to Bali
Love, love, LOVE to travel… so need to start putting on my thinking cap, where to go, where to go…
…..
“But how do you thank someone, who has taken you from crayons to perfume?” – Lulu (singing To Sir, with Love)
I count myself extremely lucky because I had a mentor for many years who changed my life in more ways than I can count… I learned so much from her… and now, as an Adjunct Professor, I will continue to try to be a good role model and mentor to my own students, and hopefully I will make a difference here and there…
…..

“If I were gonna haunt somebody, this would certainly be the house I’d do it in.” – Richard Long in The House on Haunted Hill
Okay, a little dramatic I know, but you get the idea 🙂
