Classic Movie Legend Tribute: Frank Sinatra

Happy Birthday to Classic Movie Legend, Frank Sinatra, born December 12, 1915.

December 12 is a historically significant day. In 2000 the United States Supreme Court released its decision in Bush v Gore, in 1991 the Russian Federation gained independence from the U.S.S.R, in 1989 your favorite blog writer (AKA me) was born, and in 1915 Francis Albert Sinatra was sent to this earth from the music heavens.

Yes, today is Ol’ Blue Eyes birthday and the responsibility falls upon me to pay homage to this legend amongst legends. So, were to begin? Well, let’s start with the man himself: Sinatra. I mean, the name itself holds power. When you think Sinatra, you think leader of the pack, you think type A personality, you think of a man all the ladies want and probably most of the men want, as well. Let’s be honest here, to say this man was a force of nature might be giving nature too much credit. The drive, the talent, the charisma and, most of all, the sheer ambition of this man is the blue print for all aspiring entertainers. Just think about the evolution of his career, going from massive teen-heartthrob to respected musician to respected actor to comedy performer to living legend. Justin Timberlake may be getting all the credit for doing this now, but Sinatra did it first.

So, to celebrate this glorious man’s birthday, let us take a look at some of his many accomplishments.

The Question (tweet your answer): Although Orson Welles claimed that the film Citizen Kane was not a biography of any one specific individual (but rather a composite of characters), it is widely believed that the film is based on the life of an American newspaper magnate (who incidentally was infuriated by the movie!). Classic Movie Legend Tribute: Margaret Hamilton

Happy Birthday to Classic Movie Legend Margaret Hamilton, born on December 9, 1902.

…..

When you think Margaret Hamiliton it’s easy to picture a crotchety old woman with an icy stare and menacing disposition. I mean, she is the woman who portrayed The Wicked Witch of The West, one of the most timeless villains to ever grace the projected screen. However, it’s interesting to know that apparently, in this thing we like to call real life, she was quite the opposite. By all accounts, she was a gentle, soft-spoken professional, always committed to her work even after, say, hospitalized for weeks with second and third degree burns set of The Wizard of Oz.

You can’t have a tribute to Margaret Hamilton without a picture from The Wizard of Oz (1939, Victor Flemming). I actually think it’s against the law in some states.

…..

However, that commitment did have a small backfire (little pun intended) on her personal life. You see, Hamilton did not always aspire to be an actress. Before making it in Hollywood, she was making lessons for kindergarteners in her home Cleveland. Always fond of children, she abhorred that many kids would assume she WAS the Wicked Witch upon meeting her. Finally, after years of unintentionally scaring off kids she cared so deeply about, she took to Mr. Rogers and showed the world that the Wicked Witch was only a character; a devilish villain sprung to life by a costume, a voice change, and a sinister laugh. I leave you here with that video. Enjoy!
