My Mom’s favorite Ava movie is “Night of the Iguana” because of the cast and background story of the guns the director gave the cast during the movie.

      Excellent Choice! Thanks!

Oh man. Mogambo I think, but I love most of her films! She was an amazing woman.

My favorite Ava Gardner movie is “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” because I first watched it with my father in the 70’s and it quickly became a family favorite. We love great western movies – especially humorous ones!

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Good one! And what a great memory to have about your dad sharing the film with you. My dad introduced me to The Marx Brothers and Charlie Chaplin when I was a little kid…

I think my favorite movie of Ava’s is The Killers. I’ve always been a fan of film noirs and I love that one of her earliest notable roles was playing a femme fatale in this movie. She was so sultry and glamorous and I also liked the storyline.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Good choice! Without a doubt 🙂

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

The Killers for the film noir vibe.

      Nice choice 🙂

While Ava Gardner is perhaps best remembered for her sultry performances in film noir classics like “The Killers,” my favorite Ava film is “Showboat.” This technicolor, big-budget Hollywood musical not only showcases Ava’s breathtaking beauty, but also highlights her considerable acting talents. Ava was more than just a pretty face; her portrayal of Julie Laverne is at times touching and heartbreaking, and sadly foreshadowed some of the same struggles Ava would herself battle to overcome.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Wow, a very interesting choice and well said!

  7. Jennifer W says:

Whilst I love the gorgeous Ava in anything – my favourite Ava Gardner film/ performance would have to be her sassy Oscar nominated performance in “Mogambo”. Also love that she and Grace Kelly became great friends and she was one of the few celebrities to attend Grace’s wedding to Prince Rainier.

      Nice choice 🙂

  8. Jennifer Essad says:

I would say “The Blue Bird” with Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda because these women are all legends, I didn’t appreciate the movie until recently

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Oh that’s interesting. I have to admit I haven’t seen that film yet, but now I’m very curious about it!

  9. Dr. B says:

I’m partial to On the Beach—a provocative, intelligent film that certainly deserves more discussion and re-watchings. There was (is) bite to the picture and Ava. The film is packed with sensational actors—but Ava’s presence never fades.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Another good choice, I haven’t seen it in ages, guess it’s about time to watch it again…

  10. C. Jean B. says:

As an avid reader and Hemingway fan, I devour the classic films based upon his works: Ava was wonderful as Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises, and while perhaps not her greatest work, it’s a role that helps convey Hemingway’s intentions with an honest, forthright, and somewhat cruelly-painful performance.
