If we have enough good times together, I’m gonna get down on my knees. I’m gonna beg that girl to marry me. -Ernest Borgnine as Marty
Well, here’s something a little different than our usual Classic Movie Coincidences…
Both Ethel Merman and Katy Jurado share a birthday today, January 16 (born in 1908 and 1924 respectively). Both of them were also married to Ernest Borgnine.
Katy Jurado was married to Borgnine from December 31, 1959 to June 3, 1963. It was the 2nd marriage for both of them.
“Borgnine and I met by accident when we collide in a dark room when leaving a restaurant. He chased me for two years… Our courtship was one of the best periods of my life. We were married soon after, but his jealousy and insecurities turned the marriage in hell.” (Katy Jurado: Proudly Mexican Hollywood Star”)
Ethel Merman was Borgnine’s 3rd wife (and he was Merman’s 4th husband). They were married on June 27, 1964, but the marriage was dissolved after 32 days, and the couple were divorced on November 18, 1964.
“Biggest mistake of my life. I thought I was marrying Rosemary Clooney.” -Ernest Borgnine
