Natalie Schafer and Louis Calhern both had feature parts in this film. Both had been married to each other in real life from 1933 to 1942.
The script to this movie had been around for years at MGM. It was originally going to be a movie for William Powell and Myrna Loy. A couple years later it was planned for Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. However both projects fell through and the script was forgotten about. Years later Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz showed interest in making another movie and they picked this script for their next movie.
In crafting the film's background music, Bronislau Kaper returned to his Oscar-winning Dramatic Score for Lili, took the "Adoration" theme from Leslie Caron's first dream-dance sequence (of two scenes choreographed by Charles Walters), and then Mr. Kaper interpolated the melody in this later picture. Johnny Green and His Orchestra, for MGM Records, waxed the Kaper lilt under the title "Confetti."
