SYNOPSIS

Bergman gives a warm, touching performance as a governess hired by a wealthy businessman. Though adored by the businessman's sons, she leaves for her native land after the family's economic reverses. She returns in sunnier times to encounter conflict with the oldest son's fiancee, a climbing gold digger played cunningly by Hayward. Bergman's second American film.
