Director, Delmer Daves, was born Delmer Lawrence Daves on Jul 24, 1904 in San Francisco, CA. Daves died at the age of 73 on Aug 17, 1977 in La Jolla, CA .

MINI BIO:

Delmer Daves was already a successful screenwriter in Hollywood, having co-penned Dames (1934), The Petrified Forest (1936), Love Affair (1939) and You Were Never Lovelier (1942) among others, before making his directorial debut in 1943 with Destination Tokyo starring Cary Grant, for which Daves also co-wrote the screenplay (with Albert Maltz). Over the course of his film career, Daves directed and wrote/co-wrote the screenplays or stories for Hollywood Canteen (1944), Dark Passage (1947),A Summer Place (1959), Rome Adventure (1962) and Spencer's Mountain (1963; which served as the basis for TV's The Waltons). Daves also directed Broken Arrow (1950), Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954), 3:10 to Yuma (1957) and Kings Go Forth (1958). Love Affair was re-made in 1957 as An Affair to Remember starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr; then again as Love Affair in 1994 starring Warren Beatty and Annette Bening.
