Clayton Moore

MINI BIO:

Clayton Moore started his entertainment career as a circus acrobat at the age of eight. From there, he worked his way up to circus aerialist, traveled to New York to become a model, then moved on to Hollywood where he continued modeling while working as a bit player and stunt man. He made his way into supporting roles, playing heroes and villains in Western 'B' films and serials, then interrupted his film career to serve in the US Army Air Force during WWII. Upon returning to Hollywood after the war, Moore continued with support parts, concentrating on Westerns, and in 1949 landed the starring role in the television adaptation of the long-running radio show, The Lone Ranger. Moore played the legendary 'Masked Man' from 1949 through 1952, was fired over a salary dispute (and replaced by John Hart for one season), then returned again to the series in 1954 (with a higher salary by the way!), remaining with the series until its end in 1957. All told, Moore appeared in 169 episodes from 1949 through 1957. He also starred in two Lone Ranger theatrical features: The Lone Ranger (1956) and The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold (1958). Moore continued 'working' as The Lone Ranger in TV commercials, TV guest appearances, and various personal appearances.
