British singer and actress with fresh, healthy looks, on radio as a child. Following stage hits with The Boy Friend and My Fair Lady, she briefly gained enormous popularity in the cinema of the 1960s; but her antiseptic air soon proved less than popular at the box-office despite strenuous and praiseworthy (if sometimes a trifle desperate) efforts to widen her range. Married to director Blake Edwards (second of two) since 1968, she as frequently seen in his films. Also writes children's stories. An Oscar-winner for Mary Poppins, she has also been nominated for The Sound of Music and Victor/Victoria. Unable to sing professionally after an operation to remove throat nodes in 1998. Created dame in 2000.

In addition, Andrews was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame . On October 22, 1991, Andrews received the Disney Legends Award for living up to the Disney principals of imagination, skill, discipline, craftsmanship and magic.
