Black-haired Egyptian actor with flashing dark eyes and faintly bogus smile. Built up a reputation as the number one male pin-up of the Egyptian cinema from 1954 to 1961 before venturing into international films. Was cast almost entirely in blockbuster epics, and found, in the seventies, that the public was less willing to accept him in smaller-scale dramas. Later in co-starring roles, and concentrating on his first love - bridge. Nominated for an Academy Award in Lawrence of Arabia. Also a former Egyptian soccer international!
