Her best known films include Forever Amber, My Darling Clementine, This is My Love, A Letter to Three Wives, Unfaithfully Yours and four films with Tyrone Power: Day-Time Wife, Brigham Young, The Mark of Zorro, Blood and Sand. Linda Darnell also played the uncredited role of The Virgin Mary in The Song of Bernadette (1943, starring Jennifer Jones). Darnell died at the age of 41 on Apr 10, 1965 in Glenview, IL and was laid to rest in Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square (Chester County), PA.

Linda Darnell was seldom well-cast by her studio, Twentieth Century-Fox, who used her as lovely decoration or (after Forever Amber) as a lightweight sex symbol. Only occasional films, such as My Darling Clementine and This is My Love, showcased her qualities of wilfulness, hard-heartedness and deep-seated smoulder that could have made Darnell a tragedienne of the first order.
