MINI BIO:
Round-faced, light-haired American actress of much warmth and appeal, who played plain, sincere, lovable ladies. She made her stage debut at 17, but her wholesome image never really caught on in the cinema. Her career was also somewhat impaired by ill-health and the McCarthy witch-hunt; thus Hollywood let her best years escape the screen. Nominated for an Oscar in I Remember Mama, she undoubtedly made too few films, but did become a familiar figure to television audiences of the 1980s as Miss Ellie in Dallas. Nels, the oldest and the only boy, my sister Christine and the littlest sister Dagmar but first and foremost I remember Mama".
