Legendary actor, Gordon MacRae, was born Albert Gordon MacRae on Mar 12, 1921 in East Orange, NJ. MacRae died at the age of 64 on Jan 24, 1986 in Lincoln, NE .

MINI BIO:

Brown-haired, chubby-cheeked American singer who played bright-eyed young hopefuls opposite Doris Day in some sparkling family musicals during a five-year Warner contract, then won the leading roles in two big musicals from stage successes. Left films for nightclub work when the demand for musicals vanished. At one time an alcoholic, MacRae became Chairman of the National Council of Alcoholism three years before his death from cancer of the mouth and jaw. The actresses Meredith MacRae (1946-2000) and Heather MacRae (1946-) are his daughters.

At age 11 he was an emcee for a local radio station.

At age 19, he won a talent contest sponsored by Picture Magazaine, earning a two-week engagement at the New York World's Fair Outdoor Dancing Pavilion singing for Harry James and Les Brown.
