American actor, often seen polishing the bar, but sometimes as shabby policeman, chatty cab-driver, or threadbare minion. Hollywood could have kept him a busy man, but he preferred theatre, drama teaching, and television work. In the last-named field, he spent five years with the popular series Naked City (as Sergeant Frank Arcaro) in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Harry Bellaver was the son of Italian immigrant laborers working in the coal mining camps of Hillsboro, Illinois.

Has two daughters, Lee and Vaughan.

Quit school in the sixth grade and worked as a teamster, a farmhand and a coal miner before winning a scholarship to Brookwood Labor College in Katonah, New York, where he acted in school productions.
