Jaunty, spring-heeled, irrepressible star of post-World War I revue, the top British star of her type in the twenties, with much of her material written especially for her by Noel Coward. She never came to terms with the cinema any more than it came to terms with her, although Julie Andrews told her story in Star! Suffered much from ill-health in later years. Died from cancer of the liver.

Portrayed by Julie Andrews in the 1968 biopic, Star! (1968).
