Stiff-necked, eagle-eyed and saturnine, Douglass Dumbrille's smile was that of a conspirator. His villains could be stuffy or sadistic, farcical or for real. He was a good foil for the Marx Brothers, Bob Hope and Abbott and Costello -- and a fine sophisticated menace for a fistful of "B" feature detectives to overcome. Sometimes billed as "Douglas" in the 1930s. He died from a heart attack.
