MINI BIO:
Cigar-puffing, dark-haired American comedian with wryly poker face and caustic wit, usually the victim of wife and long-time partner Gracie Allen's (they married in 1926 and she died in 1964) harebrained ideas. As a pair, they were more successful in radio and films in the 1930s, and television in the 1950s. Burns started a whole new career when he returned to films as a veteran vaudevillian in The Sunshine Boys at 79, and won an Academy Award, soon becoming something of a national institution. He was honored with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the categories of Motion Pictures, Television and Live Performance. George Burns's handprints and footprints were 'set in stone' at Grauman's Chinese Theater during imprint ceremony #144 on Jan 25, 1979. In addition, Burns was inducted into the TV Hall of Fame and was immortalized on a US postal stamp in 2009. Burns was never nominated for an Academy Award.
