MINI BIO:
Light-haired hero of masses of silent westerns, many of them directed by the young John Ford, in which Carey was often the bad guy reformed by the love of the heroine. Left films in 1928 to train his voice for the coming of sound, and, on his return in 1931, continued as tough men of action, with sympathetic character roles as the years wore on. Died from a coronary thrombosis. His son Harry Carey Jr. (1921-2012) was the Hollywood character actor. Oscar-nominated for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
