"Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a 60 minute radio adaptation of the movie onMay 22, 1950 with Barbara Hale and William Demarest reprising their film roles. Al Jolson who provides the singing for Larry Parks in the film portrays himself in this adaptation of his life story.

Since appearing as himself in the Jolson Story, Al Jolson had wanted to play himself in this film too. Though he doesn't play himself, he does appear. During the filming of The Jolson story there is a man standing watching the filming in a gray cowboy hat, this is Jolson.

The Jolson signature tune, "Sonny Boy" (music and lyrics by Al Jolson, Buddy G. DeSylva, Lew Brown and Ray Henderson), introduced in The Singing Fool, had been cut from the release print of The Jolson Story.

This film was the number-one moneymaker of 1949.
