When he replaced Ray Combs as host of "Family Feud" (1988), a second time in 1994, he made a promise to his daughter that he wouldn't do anymore kissing with the female contestants.

He was offered the lead role as Cpt. Robert Hogan in "Hogan's Heroes" (1965), but didn't sound American enough, hence, the role was given to Bob Crane. Dawson was later offered the role of Cpl. Peter Newkirk.

Was portrayed by Michael E. Rodgers in the film Auto Focus (2002) about Hogan's Heroes co-star Bob Crane's life.
