Character actor, Eric Barker, was born Eric Leslie Barker on Feb 20, 1912 in Thornton Heath, England. Barker died at the age of 78 on Jun 1, 1990 in Faversham, England .


British radio comedian who, after success in such post-war series as Merry-Go-Round, Waterlogged Spa, and Just Fancy, often in partnership with his wife Pearl Hackney, took on a whole new career at 44 as a film character comedian often playing busybodies or petty officials. Boulting Brothers comedies gave him a good start (he won a British Academy Award in their Brothers in Law) and he was a semi-regular in British films for the next 10 years. Catchphrase (and the title of his autobiography): "Steady, Barker!"
