His autobiography "My Father, My Son," written with William Robinson Duffy was published in 1958.

According to his autobiography, "My Father, My Son," bad publicity resulting from a bad check cost him a role in "Bride of the Gorilla.".

Was supposedly the model for the character Eddie G. in "Blonde" (2001), the mini-series version of the Joyce Carol Oates novel. This character is involved in a sexual threesome with Marilyn Monroe and a character called Cass Chaplin that was supposedly inspired by Charles Chaplin Jr.. The three did know each other, but apparently not in this context.
