Act of Violence Overview:

Act of Violence (1948) was a Film Noir - Thriller/Suspense Film directed by Fred Zinnemann and produced by William H. Wright.

SYNOPSIS

A taut, gritty drama about a WWII veteran who has miraculously - and suspiciously - survived a Nazi POW camp while the rest of his comrades, except one, have been murdered. That exception, now back in America as a physically crippled and mentally disturbed vet, embarks on a vengeful manhunt for the so-called honored hero who had actually betrayed his buddies in the camp. The "hero" wants to atone for his sins, but, in doing so, it may cost him his life.

Quotes from

Frank R. Enley: [desperately looking for Johnny] Where do I find him? Where does he live?
Pat: I don't know. Nobody knows!
Frank R. Enley: Well, there must be some way I can find...
Pat: Guys like him don't tell where they live!

Frank R. Enley: You don't know what made him the way he is - I do!

Joe Parkson: Sure, I was in the hospital, but I didn't go crazy. I kept myself sane. You know how? I kept saying to myself: Joe, you're the only one alive that knows what he did. You're the one that's got to find him, Joe. I kept remembering. I kept thinking back to that prison camp. One of them lasted to the morning. By then, you couldn't tell his voice belonged to a man. He sounded like a dog that got hit by a truck and left him in the street.
