Coogan's Bluff in New York City is the name of a large cliff extending northward from 155th Street in Manhattan. It once was the site of the fabled Polo Grounds, home of the New York baseball Giants, and the first home of the New York Mets before the Polo Grounds were demolished in 1964.

In the final chase, Coogan (Clint Eastwood) rides a 650cc Triumph TR6 motorcycle whilst Ringerman (Don Stroud) rides the 500cc Triumph T100 R Daytona upon which he appears with Linny (Tisha Sterling) in the picture displayed in Ringerman's mother's flat.

Original director was Alex Segal, who withdrew shortly before production began.

When Coogan is searching the New York nightclub, the large screen plays a scene from Tarantula, a "B" sci-fi film that Clint Eastwood made early in his career in which he had an uncredited role.
