He is survived by his daughter and four grandsons.
His daughter Anna Vyacheslavovna Tikhonova (b. 1969) runs a private film-studio "Akter" in Moscow.
On the 11th of June 2005 Tikhonov became a grandfather of two boys Slava and Georgi.
The father, with Nonna Mordyukova, of Vladimir Tikhonov, and, with Tamara Ivanovna Tikhonova, of Anna Tikhonova.
Tikhonov met his second wife while filming "Dozhivem do ponedelnika" (1970). Tamara Ivanovna was a school teacher and a consultant for that film.
Tikhonov suffered a heart attack in 2002. He recovered and after that played two new film roles.
Worked with Suren Shakhbazyan, the cinematographer of the genius Sergei Parajanov.
