After Ray had been signed by 20th Century-Fox, a powerful Hollywood gossip columnist predicted that Ray "could be the next Montgomery Clift.".
He is survived by his companion, stage director David Galligan, and his sister, Mary Ann.

Switched from acting career to publicity, joining John Springer Associates in L.A. in 1973. Represented such stars as Elizabeth Taylor and Bette Davis.
