He was cast as understudy to David Holliday in British theatre; when David Holliday was cast for _"Thunderbirds" (1964)_ the production crew had not settled on a voice for Alan Tracy (using Ray Barrett for the show's pilot episode); David Holliday recommended Zimmermann for the role.
