In a full-length article on Lynne by Barrie Roberts for "Classic Images," the author claims that, at the insistence of Republic Studios, 15-year-old Lynne's birth year was intentionally altered from 1922 to 1919 in order to avoid trouble in her pursuing romantic co-star roles on film. The change would make it appear she was 18.
On December 16, 1977, Lynne Roberts fell in the bathroom of her home, striking her head on the tiles. She suffered fractures and lacerations and soon lapsed into a coma. She died April 1, 1978, in Los Angeles, without regaining consciousness.
