A one-time social director at a summer resort.
He began acting as a boy, making his stage debut in 1924 at a Toronto theater, playing a violin prodigy in "The Rabbi and the Priest".
He is survived by his brother, Avron Jacobovitch, and sister, Rae Jacobovitch, both of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He played the violin.
He was also a stand-up comic.
He was the drama director of a Toronto Young Men's Hebrew Association in Ontario, Canada.
Made the spoof record albums "Al Tijuana and his Jewish Brass," essaying the role of a master of ceremonies/bandleader of dance band who plays songs such as "Downtown," and "The Yiddish Are Coming! The Yiddish Are Coming!" He also was part of a group that made the comic records "You Don't Have to Be Jewish" and "When You're in Love, the Whole World Is Jewish".
Played "Mr. Hans Van Daan" in both the original 1955 Broadway production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" and in George Stevens' 1959 film The Diary of Anne Frank (1959).
Was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame, and given a cement star outside of the Roy Thomson [Concert] Hall. [27 May 1999]
