John Cullum was nominated for the 2007 Tony Award (New York City) for Supporting or Features Actor in a Musical for "110 in the Shade".
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Cullum also was a standout tennis player, winning the 1951 Southeastern Conference doubles championship with Bill Davis.
