Long married to comedienne Alice Ghostley, they appeared in the 1955 Broadway production "All in One"; however, they appeared in different segments. He appeared in the Tennessee Williams play "27 Wagons Full of Cotton" and she appeared in the musical "Trouble in Tahiti".

Played one of the participants of the grueling dance marathon in the critically-acclaimed, Oscar-winning film They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969).
