Known for her feminist views, she believed that women's rights were best served by "more resonance, clear speech and a better vocabulary." She was not a fan during the early 1960s of Jacqueline Kennedy's trademark timid and whispery voice. She strove to instruct women to adopt a more assertive, confident tone when speaking.
