His daughter Diana talks about helping him build the Martian costume for "The War of the Worlds" (1953) in the book "A Sci-Fi Swarm and Horror Horde" (McFarland & Co., 2010) by Tom Weaver.
Suffered a heart attack during the filming of "Phantom of the Rue Morgue", and the role of Sultan was completed by a stunt double. Though he never portrayed gorillas again, he did appear as the outer space alien in "I Married A Monster From Outer Space".
