Acquired the nickname "The Booker Bridesmaid" because five of her novels were nominated for the UK's Man Booker Prize, but none won.
Awarded a DBE in 2000, making her Dame Beryl Bainbridge.
In addition to writing novels, she was a columnist for the Spectator and the Evening Standard (both UK).
She is survived by her two daughters, Jo-Jo Davies and Rudi Davies; and a son, Aaron Davies all of London, England and seven grandchildren.
She was awarded Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2000 Queen's Honours List for her services to literature.
