A noted stage actress specializing in Shakspeare. Her various productions have included "Hamlet", "Macbeth", Much Ado About Nothing" and "Midsummer Nights Dream".

In 1965, at age 35, she became the youngest recipient ever awarded the Order of the British Empire for her distinguished work in the theatre.
She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1965 for her services to drama.
