In 1938, a founding member of Actors' Equity Association, he was elected president of that organization.
Made his stage debut at the age of seventeen with his father's company. In his fifty years on the stage, he played more than three hundred characters in over ten thousand performances.
Probably should be nicknamed "Official" (Arthur "Official" Byron), to distinguish him from the unrelated actor nicknamed "Pop" (see on IMDB under A. S. "Pop" Byron). In his film career this Arthur "Official" Byron often played roles of government officials, professors, doctors, and other respectable gentlemen.
