Directed 6 different actors in Oscar-nominated performances: Edmund Gwenn, Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, Gig Young, Helen Hayes, and Maureen Stapleton. Gwenn, Kelly, and Hayes won Oscars for their performances in one of Seaton's movies.

His wife, Phyllis Loughton Seaton, was the first female mayor of Beverly Hills.

In 1933, he was the original radio Lone Ranger (using the name George Stenius) and then left the role after two-and-a-half months to pursue a career as a writer in New York.

President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1955 to 1958.
