He directed six different performers in Oscar-nominated performances: Robert Ryan, Gloria Grahame, Tom Tully, Humphrey Bogart, Katy Jurado and Elizabeth Taylor.

Last name properly pronounced "Dah-METT-trick."

Later renounced and denounced Communism.
