The pairing of Louis Prima and Alice Faye in Rose of Washington Square has a unique connection to Walt Disneys The Jungle Book since the former played the orangutan King Louie and the latter was the wife of Phil Harris who played Baloo the bear and together they sang "I Wan'na Be Like You".

This film closely resembles the life of entertainer Fanny Brice, and Alice Faye even sings Ms. Brice's signature song "My Man". According to Alice Faye: The Star Next Door, Fanny Brice sued 20th Century Fox for $750,000. 20th Century Fox benefited from the publicity, and this film was its biggest musical hit of 1939. The studio settled out of court with Fanny Brice for an undisclosed amount.

Three songs were cut from this picture: "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" (music by Joseph McCarthy, lyrics by Harry Carroll), sung by Alice Faye (Note: the melody is played in the background); "I'll See You in My Dreams" (music by Isham Jones, lyrics by Gus Kahn), sung by Alice Faye; and "Avalon" (music and lyrics by Al Jolson and Vincent Rose), sung by Al Jolson. All three songs as filmed still exist.
