Bernard Miles Overview:

Character actor, Bernard Miles, was born Bernard James Miles on Sep 27, 1907 in Uxbridge, England. Miles died at the age of 83 on Jun 14, 1991 in Knaresborough, England .

MINI BIO:

Dark-haired, oval-faced British character-creator with distinctive scowling smile. On stage since 1930, he played supporting roles in films from 1933 - but gained his real fame as a comic monologuist, portraying knowing rustics. In films, he was mainly cast as simple folk, but he was always well in character in Dickensian parts and, after he became passionately involved with his own London theatre (the Mermaid), it was inevitable that he should move on to a ripe Long John Silver. Knighted in 1969. Created Lord Miles in 1978. Almost blind and confined to a wheelchair in his last years.
