Legendary actor, Roy Rogers, was born Leonard Franklin Slye on Nov 5, 1911 in Cincinnati, OH. Rogers died at the age of 86 on Jul 6, 1998 in Apple Valley, CA and was laid to rest in Sunset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Apple Valley, CA.

MINI BIO:

Light-haired American singing cowboy who became for many years the world's number one money-making western star. His medium-budget westerns at Republic were longer (around 75 minutes) than the average and actually burst into color for a while in the late forties. Also a popular recording star. His horse Trigger (1932-1965) was almost as famous. Married (second; first wife died) to Dale Evans, his oft-time leading lady, from 1947. Always signed autographs "Happy Trails." Died from congestive heart failure.

HONORS and AWARDS:

He was honored with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the categories of Television, Radio and Motion Pictures. Roy Rogers's handprints and footprints were 'set in stone' at Grauman's Chinese Theater during imprint ceremony #84 on Apr 21, 1949. In addition, Rogers was inducted into the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and was immortalized on a US postal stamp in 2010. Rogers was never nominated for an Academy Award.

Besides his most famous role as Roy Rogers himself, "King of the Cowboys", Roy may be one of the few actors, if not the most famous one, to have played three of the West's greatest legends: Wild Bill Hickok, William F. Cody (aka Buffalo Bill) and Jesse James. Also, in Billy the Kid Returns (1938), he played the slain gunslinger as well.
