Gracious and genteel leading lady, Elizabeth Allan, was adept at playing frightened misses and well-bred heroines early in her career while under contract to MGM. Returning to Britain in 1938 after an acrimonious dispute with her studio which had dropped her from the film, The Citadel, she appeared as upper-class wives in largely undistinguished films, but later became popular in TV panel game shows.
