They Drive by Night

They Drive by Night

Ed J. Carlsen: Early to rise and early to bed, makes a man healthy, but socially dead!

--Alan Hale Sr. (as Ed Carlsen) in They Drive by Night

Kovatch: Oh, I love my family, but I'd give my six kids to get rid of my wife.

Footsteps in the Dark

Footsteps in the Dark

Police Insp. Charles M. Mason: Say, listen, doctor. This is very important. I want another autopsy on Fissue. And be very careful this time. It's possible he was murdered by some obscure drug that you might have overlooked.
Coroner: I'm very sorry, Inspector. But I can't make another autopsy. Why not? Because the body was cremated yesterday.
Police Insp. Charles M. Mason: All right. Then don't do it.

The Man in the Iron Mask

The Man in the Iron Mask

Porthos: [Seeing nine soldiers matched against him and his three musketeer friends] Is the King being frugal? Only nine men?
First Officer: And ninety more outside!
Porthos: [With bravado] Flatterer!

The Inspector General

The Inspector General

The Mayor: [hearing that a stranger's been arrested who might be the Inspector General in disguise] You idiot. Did you search him? Question him?

The Sea Hawk

The Sea Hawk

Queen Elizabeth: And now, my loyal subjects, a grave duty confronts us all: To prepare our nation for a war that none of us wants, least of all your queen. We have tried by all means in our power to avert this war. We have no quarrel with the people of Spain or of any other country; but when the ruthless ambition of a man threatens to engulf the world, it becomes the solemn obligation of all free men to affirm that the earth belongs not to any one man, but to all men, and that freedom is the deed and title to the soil on which we exist. Firm in this faith, we shall now make ready to meet the great armada that Philip sends against us. To this end, I pledge you ships - ships worthy of our seamen - a mighty fleet, hewn out of the forests of England; a navy foremost in the world - not only in our time, but for generations to come.
Carl Pitt: [leading a cheer] To England, and the Queen!

--Alan Hale Sr. (as Carl Pitt) in The Sea Hawk

Dodge City

Dodge City

Rusty Hart: You couldn't keep Wade here, Colonel. He's the most 'movin' on' man you ever saw. First off, he was in the English army over in India. Then he got mixed up in some kind of a hu-rah Revolution down in Cuba way. Then he started punchin' cattle in Texas, that is, of course, before he enlisted in the war. So, you see, he's either the greatest traveler ever lived, or else he is the biggest lier!

--Alan Hale Sr. (as Rusty Hart) in Dodge City
