'Joan Crawford' was on-loan to Columbia Pictures from MGM.

'Joan Crawford''s famous line "When I want a sneak, I'll hire the best and get a Jap" drew the movie's biggest laugh from 1942 audiences. The line is now considered offensive in these politically correct times, and has been cut from most current prints.

Joan Crawford was asked to take over Carole Lombard's role after she died in a air crash during a war bond tour. She then donated all of her salary to the Red Cross who found Lombard's body, and promptly fired her agent for taking his usual 10%.

Carole Lombard was originally cast in this film, but due to her death in a plane crash in January, 1942, 'Joan Crawford' replaced her. When the film was completed, she contributed her entire salary to the American Red Cross in Lombard's name.
