Don Ameche's film debut.

Douglas Gerrard had the role of Lieutenant Walsh but was replaced by Pat Somerset after 6 days of shooting.

Although not specifically stated in the credits, the movie was based on the 1931 book, "Clive" by R.J. Minney and the 1933 play "Clive of India" by W.P. Lipscomb and R.J. Minney. The play opened in Great Hucklow, Derbyshire, England, UK on 27 March 1933. Darryl F. Zanuck saw the play in London, bought the rights and brought the two authors to Hollywood to write the screenplay.

Co-star Colin Clive was in fact a real-life descendent of Clive of India.
