He has often been confused, even by such noted writers as Pauline Kael, with the George Schaefer who directed "Hallmark Hall of Fame" (1951) for many years, as well as many other television films.

President of RKO at the time that Orson Welles was making films there. He was ousted from the studio in 1942 because of the controversy surrounding Welles' first two films there.
