Event Details

If you haven't had the chance to see a silent film at the Playhouse, visit Sunday afternoon, January 27th at 2:30pm! The Playhouse will be screening 1926's Ella Cinders featuring silent film star Colleen Moore, a film that is "full of laughs that reach your heart."

Adapted from the popular comic strip loosely based on the Cinderella story, Moore plays Ella, a small town girl ill-treated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. In the hopes of winning a trip to Hollywood and getting a part in a film, she enters a local contest. Does she win the contest and become a Hollywood star?

A wonderful comedienne, her charming personality and quick wit shine in the film. "Between funny faces, genuine emotion, and some dead on- impressions, Moore never misses" (moviessilently.com).

Accompanying the film on the Playhouse's 1924 Mighty Wurlitzer theater pipe organ is American Theatre Organ Society's Organist of the Year (2012) Mark Herman.

Silent Sundays continue with a crime thriller, Alfred Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929), on April 14th and concludes with the two-color Technicolor swashbuckling adventure, Douglas Fairbanks' The Black Pirate (1926), on June 2nd.

This event is produced in partnership with the Los Angeles Theatre Organ Society, as part of the Mission Playhouse's Community Engagement Program, Engage! Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at door, discounts for groups of 10+. Online/phone orders except group tickets are subject to additional fees and charges.
