About the film: Harvard Law student Oliver Barrett IV (Ryan O’Neal) and music student Jennifer Cavilleri (Ali MacGraw) share a chemistry they cannot deny—and a love they cannot ignore. Despite their opposite backgrounds, the young couple put their hearts on the line for each other. When they marry, Oliver’s wealthy father threatens to disown him. Jenny tries to reconcile the Barrett men, but to no avail. Oliver and Jenny continue to build their life together. Relying only on each other, they believe love can fix anything. But fate has other plans. Soon, what began as a brutally honest friendship becomes the love story of their lives. This beloved film was nominated for seven Academy Awards®, including an Oscar®-winning musical score that became the poignant theme of the timeless romance. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this romantic classic returns to cinemas and includes exclusive insights from Turner Classic Movies.

Please note that only United States residents are eligible to enter this giveaway contest.

I’m really not sure what makes Love Story a classic, although it is a very special movie for me personally. Maybe it’s a classic because it’s a movie that is still well (and fondly) remembered. ???

I don’t think any of the theaters you listed are near me, so please don’t even make me eligible for free tickets. (Why waste the tickets? … We have Marcus theaters where I live.) But I wanted to write this anyway because Love Story has a special place in my history. I was a freshman in high school when this first ran in the theaters. My English teacher took my entire class to see the movie as an assignment, and we discussed it in the classroom afterwards. My kind of homework! I’m hoping Love Story shows close enough to me that I’ll be able to revisit it again on the big screen. (Also, I’d love to see this play at the TCM Film Festival one of these years … with Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal introducing.)

Not the greatest review … but I love Love Story, so there you go. :-/

What is it about Love 💕 Story that makes it a Classic after 50 years?

“ How about,Love is Never Having to Say You’re Sorry”.
What Jenny meant to Oliver was him being in Love with her was not wrong, despite their differences. They were from different backgrounds ,and idealistly felt that Love would conquer all.

A beautiful scene where Jenny and Oliver made Angels in the Snow.
Wonderful chemistry between Ali McGraw and the dashing young Ryan O’Neal early film role after starring in the Serial ,Peyton Place.

It remains a timeless romance of star crossed lovers.
I want to see it on Big Screen as I am a hopeless romantic

Love across barriers is a classic theme and LOVE STORY played it out in classic style.
I saw this on its release in my early 20’s and found it deeply moving.

  5. Tim says:

My wife and I have never seen this one, but we would both like to see it!

  6. Tim says:

Ok! I just recalled that I have heard the theme song but it was a cover by Shirley Bassey!

    Thanks again!
    Hope I win!

  7. Destiny L Drake says:

The reason I would love this movie is because I’ve heard it’s a great romance movie of all time, and it has one of my favorite actors and favorite actresses, plus I would love to hear the famous movie quote from that movie: love means never having to say your sorry.

  8. Javier Valverde says:

What makes Love Story a classic after 50 years is the beautiful acting between Ryan O’Neal and Ali McGraw. The acting was so real that you ached when their characters had to separate. The score by Francis Lai made the acting even more memorable because it heightened the romance between O’Neal and McGraw’s characters.

  9. Becky H says:

    Hello,

I would love to win tickets to Love Story! It is one of my favorite movies and always makes me cry my eyes out at the end. The theme song “Where Do I Begin” is so beautiful and heartbreaking. “Love means never having to say you’re sorry” gets me every time. It would be amazing to win.

    Thank you

I have not see Love Story. Love to see it. I’ve been enjoying the resurgence of classics on the Big Screen and on the television. True acting and not computer generated special effects. Nothing wrong with computer generated special effects, but it takes team work and an artistic mind to set a movie the old way. Hope to be able to go see this movie one evening.

  11. Brad Harju says:

Love Story is a classic and with famous stars and scenes it would be neat to see it on the big screen. It also is 50 years old, so it would interesting to see if the movie still “works” after all these years.

  12. Mikary says:

“Love Story” is such a classic that it’s been parodied by “The Carol Burnett Show” and Mad Magazine, which to date is my only true exposure to the movie. So I would like to rectify this by seeing it on the big screen, the only place to see a true classic!

Saw this with my husband (now deceased) and we both loved it. He wasn’t even into the love stories. The soundtrack was played on the turn table all the time

I have never seen this film and would love to get the chance. Loved Ryan O’Neal in A Bridge to Far.
