John Gant: He's afraid of me.

Dr. Luke Canfield: You were expecting that to happen, weren't you?
John Gant: I wasn't surprised.
Dr. Luke Canfield: You killed him.
John Gant: You're wrong, Physician. He started killing himself long before I ever got here.

Sheriff: Why didn't you kill me?
John Gant: I wasn't paid to.

John Gant: A lot of people would like to kill John Gant. But it took a healer with a hammer to make it easy for them.

John Gant: I like you, Physician. You're like me. You and I may well be the only two honest men in town.
Dr. Luke Canfield: Don't compare us. We've got nothing in common.
John Gant: Everybody dies.

John Gant: Judges interest me. They have the power of life and death. So do physicians.

John Gant: Take two men. Say they have robbed and lied, and have never paid. The man whom one of them has robbed comes to me and says, "Kill that man who's robbed me." And I kill him. The other man becomes ill and would die, except for a physician who returns him to health to rob and lie again. Who's the villain in this piece? Me or the physician?

John Gant: That's your prescription doc... fill it.

John Gant: There are many of you! Yes, you could kill me. If you're willing enough. But it's only fair to tell you that I'll kill you, Stricker. And you, Dutch Henry. The physician. His father. And there might even be time for you, storekeeper. You surprise me, physician. I didn't expect to see you running with the pack. You've come against me once. Now I warn you: I'll stay here until I'm ready to leave. I use my gun for money, and I don't like to work for nothing. But you trouble me again, and I might have to break my rule. That's my prescription, physician. You'd better get it filled.

John Gant: Why do you want to kill me, friend?
Lou: You know why.
John Gant: All right. If you think you can do it, go ahead and try. My hands are on the table. I couldn't possibly outdraw you. So go ahead and shoot.
