Breakfast at Tiffany's Overview:

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) was a Comedy - Drama Film directed by Blake Edwards and produced by Martin Jurow and Richard Shepherd.

The film was based on the novel of the same name written by Truman Capote published in 1958.

SYNOPSIS

One more reason to fall in love with Audrey Hepburn is this sparkling and, at times, poignant comedy about a free-spirited young woman from the hinterlands redefining herself in New York City and her relationship with an aspiring writer. Holly Golightly partakes of all the big-city pleasures: parties, fine restaurants, and handsome, wealthy men who pay her way. Then she meets a new neighbor, a hopeful writer who himself lives off the generosity of a rich benefactor and soon the two begin a wistful, thorny relationship as Holly struggles to stay free. Based on a Truman Capote novella, it also features the timeless melody "Moon River" by Henry Mancini.

Quotes from

Holly Golightly: You know those days when you get the mean reds?
Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues?
Holly Golightly: No. The blues are because you're getting fat and maybe it's been raining too long, you're just sad that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?
Paul Varjak: Sure.
Holly Golightly: Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany's. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that'd make me feel like Tiffany's, then - then I'd buy some furniture and give the cat a name!

Paul Varjak: You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.
[takes out the ring and throws it in Holly's lap]
Paul Varjak: Here. I've been carrying this thing around for months. I don't want it anymore.

Holly Golightly: I'm not hotfooting it after Jose, if that's what you think. Ohhh no. As far as I'm concerned he's the future president of nowhere.

Truman Capote was reportedly unhappy with the decision to cast Audrey Hepburn as he'd been in favor of Marilyn Monroe. Hepburn was very self-conscious of her performance while Capote was on set as she felt inadequate as the Holly he had envisioned.
The story which Paul received the $50 check for is called Roman Caper, a reference to Audrey Hepburn's first starring role, Roman Holiday.
